If you have recently moved to Dubai this maybe your first Ramadan in the Emirate and you may have lots of questions about this special time of year. A great place to get many of your questions answered is the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding (SMCCU) in the Bastakiya area of Dubai.
From 1st July until 26th July (approx) SMCCU will be hosting Iftar. Held in the courtyard of their beautiful wind-tower house in the heart of the historical Bastakiya, Old Bur Dubai, your evening will commence after the Athan (the call to prayer). Break the fast with your Emirati hosts and enjoy Arabic coffee and dates. Then take a moment to watch your hosts pray, before Iftar is served. You are invited to ask any questions you may have about Ramadan, the culture or the traditions of the UAE. After Iftar, join them for a visit to the Diwan Masjid in the Bastakiya, before returning to SMCCU house for dessert and tea.
The event will commence approximately 15 minutes before the call to prayer every night. Tickets are 135AED per person, under 12 years are free. The Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding (SMCCU) is a non-profit organisation established to increase awareness and understanding between the various cultures that live in Dubai. Location
The SMCCU centre is located on Al Musallah Road in Bastakiya, Bur Dubai, between the Al Fahidi round-about and Dubai creek. Close landmarks include the British Embassy on Al Seef Road, the Ruler’s Court and the Dubai Museum on Al Fahidi Road.
